10 Ways to Get Rid of Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder bugs are common pests found in Canada and the United States that will enter structures in the fall to seek shelter. They emerge again in the spring to feed and lay eggs. The key to avoiding a boxelder bug infestation is prevention.

Residual Insecticide

A fast-acting insecticide should be sprayed on the exterior walls of the structure of the infestation. Also spray around attic vents, windows, doors and any other points of entry. Concentrate on the south and southwest sides of the structure. Boxelder bugs are less likely to be attracted to shady areas.

Seal Exterior Cracks

Find and seal as many exterior cracks in the infested structure as possible. Caulk all holes, cracks and crevices of exterior walls so that the bugs are less likely to find a way in.

The quickest way to deal with a large infestation of boxelder bugs is to simply use the nozzle on your vacuum. Add some soapy water to the vacuum bag so they can't get away.
